This Year’s Safari is going to be a BIG ONE

It’s not only the Light Car Club celebrating 50 years in 2015.

The club’s Safari rally is also celebrating it’s 50th running. The longest continuously running rally in Australia (and well up there in the world), the Safari started its humble beginnings way back in 1966.

This year the Carrington’s Traffic Services Safari Rally is round five of both the WA Rally Championship and Clubman Rally Series and again will utilise the forests East of Perth in the Chidlow/Sawyers Valley area for the eight special stages.

Changes to the event this year will add another dimension for teams and spectators alike.

Firstly the route has been altered from 2014. Across the rally, stages have been revised including the deletion of some of the tight, narrow roads used last year and the addition of some new sections.

Second, a new spectator stage has been created in Chidlow. Sponsored by Thornlie Towing, the new stage will allow easy access for spectators and service crew bringing rally action right into the town site. For the fastest outright WARC, 2WD and Clubman competitors over the stage, there’s also $250 Coles-Myer gift cards up for grabs to spice up the competition.

Third Clubman competitors will start the rally after the first service and finish before the third. This will bring the finish times of the Clubman and WARC HH_1closer together, allowing both groups of competitors to enjoy a combined presentation at the end of the rally without a long wait.

Speaking of the finish, All Star Garage are again onboard sponsoring the service park and helping out with the ceremonial champagne finish. Leading Clubman & WARC crews will have their chance to “pop the corks” on the podium after their respective competitions have finished. All finishing competitors will also receive a commemorative medal to mark the occasion.

We haven’t forgotten our highly valued officials either. All officials who sign on for the 50th Safari will receive a special gift as a token of our appreciation and also go into the draw to win the fantastic prize of a Half Day Rally Driving Experience, behind the wheel of a Turbo charged Subaru Rally Car. Download the officials’ registration form here
