President’s Report March 2019

Hello Members

Welcome back for 2019. I hope you all had a restful Christmas and New Year and have settled in waiting to get back into the world of Rallying.

I do miss the sound of Rally cars through the bush hence my viewing the Alpine Rally in Victoria last year which found its way onto mainstream television last weekend.

From all accounts it was a great event despite the weather and a number of WA competitors making the long trip to the east coast to participate.

The event had approximately 100 entries which took 4 hours for the cars to clear the stages. Despite being incredibly slippery it looked like the roads held up with the final day’s event being rain free. The concept of 2wd cars only and non turbo cars seems to appeal too many as demonstrated by the WA contingent prepared to forego competing locally to do this event.

For me being a 2wd fan I loved watching the diversity of 2wd cars many from the 70s and 80s.

Speaking of diversity it is expected that the Mini Safari Sprint will again this year encourage some rally cars to come out of the shed and spend a day on the fantastic roads in the Beraking  area in the Mundaring Forest. This will be run in a similar format as last year being 2 stages run at least twice. Additional runs will depend on timing and the condition of the roads. Last year the roads held up well and it is expected they will be similar grip levels as previously.

As usual we are needing officials to help with road closures and other jobs so if you have not filled your calendar on 16th March please consider coming out for the day and having a great day in the bush. We really would appreciate some support.

On another matter it is imperative that we continue to engage with members of the Club on all matters associated with club activities including social events. In this regard we want members of the club feeling comfortable contacting a member of the committee or myself to discuss any matter of concern or even looking at how they can assist in the running of events. Last year we had over 100 members yet we struggle to find enough help to make events run. The committee needs your support.

Kind Regards
